Thornton Kay from SALVO needs you to get your comments in very quickly to support the trade campaign to include, once more, the consideration of reclaimed materials in planning applications.
Who is saving traditional and historic building materials?
Cutting a long and shocking story short: the very conservationists and heritage lobby you would imagine to be vigorous supporters of saving traditional and historic building materials have encouraged the diminution of reclaimed materials in planning considerations. Since 1997, English Heritage has quietly removed support in Codes of Practice that would require planning authorities to demand that applicants consider reuse and reclamation.
Act now: support this trade campaign
Lobby, quickly, to reinstate and reinforce the statutory requirement to include reuse and reclamation in all important planning matters. It is not sufficient to accept the individual good will of the more conscientious planning departments. It should be a legal obligation, not dependent on favour or the vagaries of individual opinion.
